About Me

I am a registered clinical counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and have been since 2006 when I obtained a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology. Prior to this, I worked with people as a registered dietitian for ten years in hospital settings, community based programs and private practice.

My training includes Advanced Studies with the Dr. Gordon Neufeld Institute to become a certified facilitator of the Power to Parent video-course series. This series is a developmentally-based approach to restoring the child-parent relationship. Attachment is increasingly recognized in neuroscience as the basis of growth and health. Dr. Gordon Neufeld’s parenting approach has been life-changing in my own parenting.

I have specialized training in working with adults to resolve trauma, including EMDRIA Approved Basic EMDR Training, Lifespan Integration Therapy Training (Level 1 and 2) and Observed and Experiential Integration Training (OEI Level 1). These approaches use the client-therapist relationship to help the brain and body to get “unstuck”,  complete natural healing processes and adapt. “EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma” (from the EMDRIA website).

When working with couples, I use Emotionally Focused Couples Thearpy.

In addition, I also have training in supporting individuals struggling with an abusive relationship: When Love Hurts Training. This is a strength-based approach to supporting a person in finding solutions and resources.
